FAQ
Questions About Teardrop Camp Trailer Plans.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I don’t have a paypal account, can I pay with a credit card without using paypal?
A. Yes. You will have a choice at checkout to pay with PayPal or pay with a credit card for a non-paypal payment.
Q. Can I mail my payment?
A. Yes. But be sure to read the information on our "Store Policies" page to see how to send your payment and what forms of payment we accept.
Q. Do you have teardrop plans in any other sizes besides the 5 x 8 and 5 x 10?
A. No. Not at this time.
Q. I have an older 5 x 8 utility trailer that I’m not doing anything with, can I use it for the frame instead of buying one?
A. Yes. But only if it either does not have side rails or if it has removable side rails. If it has been sitting for a long time be sure to check it over good, underneath as well as the top and make sure everything is road worthy on it, such as the axle, springs, frame ect.
Q. Do you build trailers for people?
A. No. The trailers we build are for testing and for the purpose of our trailer plans only, we are not a trailer manufacturing company.
Q. Do I have to know how to weld to build the teardrop trailer?
A. No. Not if you use one of the little bolt together trailers or a prefabricated trailer for the frame. The only time you would have to weld anything is if you choose to build your own frame.
Q. What is the height of the trailer from the floor to the ceiling?
A. Four feet at the tallest section.
Q. Can I get paper copies of the plans?
A. Yes. You can now purchase the Hard Copy of our plans from our site, the plans will ship USPS Priority Mail. To learn more go to the "Hard Copy" page on our site.
Q. Do you make custom plans for people? And if so what does it cost?
A. Yes. As long as we feel the customizations you are requesting wouldn’t make the trailer unsafe. If you would like a custom set of plans, you can go to the "Contact Us" page and send the information about what you want and we will review your request and let you know if we will do them or not. If we agree to make the plans for you we will include
the price in that email. It usually runs anywhere from $25.00 to $85.00 depending on the amount of time that it will take.
Q. Will I need any special tools to build the teardrop.
A. No. As long as you are not planning to build the trailer frame yourself. Some of the tools you will need are a carpenters square, a tape measure, a drill, cordless screw driver, a table saw or a saber saw or a jig saw (you will need some type of saw that allows you to cut on the marked line and cut at curved angles.) and there are more than a few that will get the job done. One item that you may need more of than you might have on hand are clamps for holding pieces together until the glue dries etc. Of course you will need some other pretty common tools, but those are the majority of the main tools you will need.
Q. Do your plans have a single door or double doors for the teardrop?
A. We give you instructions for building it with either one or two doors.
Q. How long will it take me to build the trailer?
A. There is no way for us to answer that question. We had one customer that built the 5 x 10 with his son and they finished that trailer in a week and a half. Then another customer we had been mesg. back and forth built his in a little over six weeks. So we just can't answer that question. Some people will work on the trailer 6 hours a day and others will only work on theirs two hours a day. So its just impossible for us to be able to give you a time line.
Q. Are the teardrop trailers in your plans insulated?
A. Yes and no. With our trailer plans the floor and the ceiling are insulated and then you will build the walls out of 3/4" plywood instead of 1/2", so your teardrop will be sturdier and the thick plywood walls give pretty good insulation on their own.
